Marco Silva had been linked with the Nottingham Forest role and now Ange Postecoglou has been sacked.

Fulham focus attention on preparations for this evening’s 5:30 pm kick off against Arsenal but the Cottagers have potentially been handed concern over the future of manager Marco Silva.

The west London outfit look to bounce back from two back-to-back 3-1 defeats when Mikel Arteta visits today but have their work cut out against the Gunners, who have conceded just three goals this season. There is a boost for the hosts in recent form against Arsenal at Craven Cottage, taking points of the north London side in their last two visits to the banks of the Thames.

There was speculation this week that Silva could be targeted by Nottingham Forest, should they sack Ange Postecoglou. Those links were already likely to be a talking point at Craven Cottage on Saturday night and those fears over a potential departure may now have been worsened.

Nottingham Forest sack Ange Postecoglou

Nottingham Forest have dismissed Postecoglou following their 3-0 defeat to Chelsea at the City Ground. The club took fewer than 20 minutes to confirm that the former Tottenham Hotspur boss had been relieved of his duties after the defeat.

A short club statement read: “Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that after a series of disappointing results and performances, Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect. The Club will make no further comment at this time.”

Fulham fears of their Premier League rivals knocking on the door of Silva will now be more serious than before. The BBC had reported that Silva was firmly on the ‘radar’ of Nottingham Forest and labelled him ‘the preferred option of a number of internal figures at the City Ground’.

Silva remains under contract at Craven Cottage but there is believed to be a ‘significant’ release clause in his contract. The report added that Forest could also look at re-appointing former manager Steve Cooper or turn to ex Everton boss Sean Dyche.

Shahid Khan on Marco Silva future at Craven Cottage

The Fulham boss’ current deal is set to expire at the end of the season. The club’s owner Shahid Khan was asked about the coach’s future by talkSPORT this week.

He said: "He’s been great. I really like him, not only as a person, (but) as a football manager, head coach. Definitely, I think he’s in our long-term plans."

How happy Silva is at Fulham remains to be known, having shared his frustration at a lack of summer transfer activity. With the club now suffering somewhat of an injury crisis, Silva cut an impatient figure as he spoke to the press against Arsenal.

Silva said: “The number of injuries, they are not good for us at the moment, and it is what it is. It’s not been the best in the last few weeks, and unfortunately, even because of the international break, we are probably in a worse situation than before.

“Being clear, Robinson is going to be out. Sasa Lukic is going to be out, Rodrigo Muniz is going to be out, Chukwueze is probably going to be out, and Kenny and Raul, they are doubts. Right now, we are not sure that they can be involved in the squad list.

"We have been really unlucky, we are not at the same level without these players. This is our worst injury period we've had in my time at the club."
