New boys on the bench – Who are Billy Lepine & Gerard Prenderville?

By Conor Hogan

**West Ham boss Nuno Espírito Santo has officially appointed his backroom staff for the 2025/26 campaign.**

Last Saturday, it was confirmed on West Ham’s official site that Academy coaches Mark Robson, Steve Potts, Billy Lepine & Gerard Prenderville had been given permanent first-team roles by the Hammers’ Head Coach.

Potts & Robson are well-known amongst Hammers fans for their time as players and coaches with the club, but who are Lepine & Prenderville?

Lepine, a goalkeeping coach, has been involved with West Ham since 2008. A former youth team player with Dagenham & Redbridge, he spent 12 years as an academy coach before being appointed as Head of Academy Goalkeeping in 2020. The 35-year-old was goalkeeping coach of Steve Potts’ U18 West Ham side between 2015 and 2018.

Prenderville was part of the FA Youth Cup winning side of 2023. His coaching career began at a special needs school. He remarks that this experience later served him well, as it required him to tailor his coaching methods to each student’s needs, without compromising the overall learning outcome.

Nuno’s new backroom staff face their first home test when they face Brentford at London Stadium on Monday night.
