Dak Prescott leads the NFL MVP race with 2,145 passing yards and 18 touchdowns through six games. The Cowboys quarterback isn’t just focusing on his own success.

Prescott plans to sit down privately with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. The topic? Extending George Pickens before his contract expires after this season.
The 24-year-old receiver has become a key piece in Dallas’ offense. Pickens arrived from Pittsburgh and immediately clicked with Prescott. His production has helped fill the void during CeeDee Lamb’s absence.
Prescott revealed his intentions during his weekly appearance on 105.3 The Fan’s “Hands On” show Thursday. Host Bryan Broaddus brought up Pickens’ looming free agency. The quarterback didn’t hesitate with his answer.
“I’ve been a little busy, but I will,” Prescottsaid. “When I run into him in that time of privacy, I’ll make sure.” He added a strong endorsement: “George’s earned it. Guy’s a baller who’s bought in.”

This isn’t the first time Prescott has pushed for contract extensions. He lobbied hard for edge rusher Micah Parsons’ extension in 2024. That deal got done quickly after Prescott’s involvement.
The timing makes sense for multiple reasons. Prescott signed a four-year, $240 million contract in 2024 making him the highest-paid player on the roster. His voice carries serious weight with Jones.
Sources suggest the meeting could happen during the Cowboys’ Week 7 bye. That would give both sides time to discuss contract projections. Pickens was drafted 52nd overall in 2022 and his rookie deal runs out after 2025.
Jones already praised Pickens publicly after the Panthers game. “He is doing more than we could’ve expected,” the owner said on October 15. “What’s really special is he’s a real plus to have around the team.”

Pickens has bought into the Dallas culture completely. He told ESPN’s Elle Duncan on Thursday that he’d welcome an extension. “I wouldn’t mind it,” Pickens said. “The guys in the locker room are super cool, and the energy is great.”
His focus remains on winning above everything else. “For sure, it’s all about winning,” Pickens explained. “That’s been my resume the whole time. I won in high school, I won at Georgia.”
The Cowboys face Philadelphia on October 27 at Lincoln Financial Field. Dallas has just 11 regular-season games left to evaluate Pickens before free agency hits. Quick decisions matter to avoid a bidding war next offseason.
Cowboys Fans Can’t Decide if Dak Playing GM is Genius or Disaster
Social media exploded when Prescott’s plans became public. Fans had wildly different takes on the quarterback stepping into Jerry’s business.
One fanwrote, “Dak GMscott.” The nickname caught fire immediately across Twitter.
A secondadded, “Dak gotta keep going with this mentality!! Demand and press Jerry force that old dust ball to build a Super Bowl caliber team!!”
Others saw Prescott as a better decision-maker than the actual GM. A thirdnoted, “Dak is a better GM than Jerry.” The sentiment reflects decades of frustration with Jones’ personnel moves.
Not everyone embraced the quarterback’s new role. A fourthobserved, “Cowboys fans, brace for chaos!” The comment captures the uncertainty around Dallas’ front office structure.
Prescott’s involvement raises interesting questions about player influence. He clearly wants weapons around him for a Super Bowl run. Whether Jones listens remains the biggest question mark hanging over America’s Team.
