Nottingham Forest have five names in frame to replace Ange Postecoglou as manager

Following a 3-0 defeat to Chelsea, Nottingham Forest made the swift decision to sack Ange Postecoglou. The Australian, drafted in to replace Nuno Espirito Santo, failed to win in any of his eight games in charge at the City Ground, picking up one point from five Premier League matches.

Postecoglou's reign lasted for just 39 days, making it the shortest-ever managerial tenure in Premier League history. Reportedly, he departed the City Ground immediately after briefly saying his goodbyes. The 60-year-old, last season, guided Tottenham to Europa League glory, ending a 17-year trophy drought, but stuttered to a 17th-placed finish in the league and was completely unable to find any form with Forest.

As the club insist that no concrete candidate is lined up to replace Postecoglou, who is in the frame to take his now-former job?

Multiple Candidates For Forest

Sean Dyche

Having previously worked with Marinakis at Olympiacos, Marco Silva is firmly in contention for the role. Not only for his prior link with Forest's owner, but for his accomplishments at Fulham since taking over the London side, establishing them as a Premier League outfit once again.

Another name that has been discussed at Forest is Sean Dyche. Most recently at Everton, the former Toffees and Burnley boss has a proven track record of instilling grit into his teams and would certainly have the ability to guide this Forest squad away from the threat of relegation. It would seem, however, that Dyche would prefer a contract running beyond the current campaign, whilst Forest are inclined towards a shorter deal.

Former Forest manager Steve Cooper, who guided the club back to the Premier League after a long absence, has reportedly been discussed. Cooper, however, recently accepted a new job with Brondby. An alternative candidate, Mauricio Pochettino, is also unlikely to leave his current post in charge of the American national team, having taken the job with an eye on the upcoming 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is no stranger to the Premier League, having almost won a title with Liverpool before enjoying a tenure in charge of Leicester City, who he guided to an FA Cup. Though his contract is set to expire at the season's conclusion, it appears unlikely that the Northern Irishman would depart Glasgow mid-season.

Forest feel, by sacking Postecoglou at this point of the season, that it is early enough for any potential damage to be overturned. With a varied range of candidates, it will be intriguing to see which direction Marinakis takes from what has to be called a failed experiment with Postecoglou at the helm.
