Roberto Mancini could become Nottingham Forest's next manager in the wake of Ange Postecoglou's sacking.

The Greek head coach was relieved of his duties after just 39 days in charge of the Reds on Saturday, after Forest succumbed to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea on home soil. While Postecoglou was only taken on in September as a successor to Nuno Espirito Santo, the board made the decision to part ways with him after he failed to win any of his eight games in charge of the club.

As a result, Mancini has now emerged as a potential candidate to take up tenure at the City Ground, as Forest rot in 18th place in the Premier League standings with just one win, two draws and five losses to their name. The Athletic report that Forest have been 'in contact' with Mancini about a move Trentside.

The 60-year-old has been out of work since leaving his post as the head coach of the Saudi Arabian national team last year, but boasts an impressive resume to say the least.

Mancini won a Coppa Italia a-piece with Fiorentina and Lazio before joining Inter Milan in 2004. During his four-year reign at the San Siro, the Italian scooped three Serie A titles and four domestic cups before moving on to Manchester City.

While reports recently suggested that Mancini was willing to take up tenure at Old Trafford in the event that Ruben Amorim is sacked by Manchester United, the Telegraph have suggested that he is a serious contender for the vacancy at Forest.

However, Mancini isn't the only man who has been linked with the role as of recent. Sean Dyche is currently believed to be the frontrunner to succeed Postecoglou in the Midlands, with the Englishman out of work since parting ways with Everton in January.

Elsewhere, Fulham's Marco Silva, former Chelsea and Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho, and Danny Rohl have also been brought up in conversation by football fans across the country.
