Brenden Aaronson had another ineffective game as Leeds United suffered a 2-0 defeat at Burnley. The American found a way to miss a chance, but it didn’t stop Daniel Farke from defending a player who has been more than unpopular among the Leeds fanbase.
With Daniel James still coming back from an injury, and Wilfried Gnonto and Noah Okafor out injured, Leeds had little option but to continue with Aaronson in the right-wing role against Burnley at Turf Moor.

However, it is debatable whether it would have made any difference if James was fit enough to start, as Farke has shown an insurmountable amount of loyalty towards the American and never fails to defend him.
Aaronson missed a huge chance against Burnley, where it was harder not to score than to find the back of the net. However, he somehow found a way to hit the ball straight at Burnley goalkeeper Martin Dubravka from a few yards out.
However, it didn’t stop the Leeds manager from praising the save rather than criticising Aaronson for not finding a way to hit at either side of the Burnley goalkeeper.
Daniel Farke defends Brenden Aaronson again, but this time, it is laughable
Aaronson was poor again in the final third, and all his running and hard work mean nothing when, as a forward, he cannot create or finish off chances.
However, Farke found a way to defend him. It’s laughable to suggest that it was a top save when the ball was hit straight at the goalkeeper, and it’s even more galling when the manager defended Aaronson for being overexcited.
Defending the American, the manager said after the game: “There was not a clear connection from Brenden.
“Top, top save, but I would have preferred a different finish.
“I cannot blame him. It’s not like he did not want to score. Maybe over-excited and keen to score the goal. Team needed to be calmer with their chances today.”
Farke could not bring himself to blame Aaronson for missing a straightforward chance when he is playing in the team as a forward.
However, it shows that even the Leeds manager is aware of Aaronson’s weakness as a forward, but continues to persist with him.”
Aaronson will cost Farke his job
With Leeds struggling to score goals, Aaronson’s miss looks even more guilt-edged as it could have helped the Whites to get a foothold in the game at Burnley
He ran around a lot, looked busy, covered a lot of the pitch, but then he is a winger, and is supposed to create or score goals, and he failed again on that front.
It was a big chance, and he hit the ball straight at the goalkeeper. Yes, he is not a natural goalscorer, but then he should not be playing as one of the three attackers in the starting eleven.
Farke’s loyalty towards Pascal Struijk is damaging the team, and Aaronson is one more player who could end up getting the manager sacked.
Will Farke change his starting eleven against West Ham next weekend? Your guess is as good as mine.
