A second half brace from Erling Haaland proved enough to power Pep Guardiola’s side to victory over the Merseysiders at the Etihad – and up into top spot in the table for a few hours at least.
The Norwegian maintained his incredible start to the 2025/26 season by heading City into a 58th minute lead to register a goal for the 11th match in succession.
Five minutes later the striker struck again, despatching a superb finish to Savinho’s assist to take his overall tally for the season to 23 for club and country – and 14 for City.
The victory was also enough to power City into first place in the Premier League table on goal difference – for a few hours at least – with Arsenal not in action until later on Saturday away at Fulham.
