Pistons waive trio of training-camp contributors after preseason finale

Following the conclusion of their preseason slate, the Detroit Pistons have waived three players under Exhibit 10 contracts, clearing up their roster ahead of the beginning of the regular season.

Center Charles Bediako, forward Dawson Garcia and guard Brice Williams were all waived on Friday, according to the NBA transaction log.

The trio signed their deals in September to join the Pistons’ training-camp roster. But as rosters shrink back down to regular-season size, none of them earned the final spot that’s still open at Detroit.

Last season the Pistons went into the 2024-25 campaign with their 15th roster spot empty, as well.

Bediako, a Canadian 7-footer out of Alabama, spent the first two seasons of his career in the G League with the Austin Spurs (San Antonio) and Grand Rapids Gold (Denver).

He averaged 10.4 points, 9.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game for Grand Rapids in 34 games last season. Bediako played six minutes across preseason and posted a pair of rebounds.

Garcia and Williams both joined the Pistons for Summer League as undrafted rookies.

Garcia, a 6-foot-11 big out of Minnesota, didn’t take the court during preseason. However, Williams — out of Nebraska — played in all four preseason games, scoring 11 points, adding two rebounds, an assist and a block in 37 total minutes.

It is likely that after being waived by the Pistons, all three could end up signing with Detroit’s G-League team, the Motor City Cruise.

The Pistons currently have 14 players on their active roster, alongside their three two-way players. Detroit begins the 2025-26 regular season on Wednesday against the Chicago Bulls on the road.
