Eagles writer proposes a trade that has Howie Roseman written all over it

One Eagles beat writer thinks (like we all do) the team should make a play for a second cornerback across from Quinyon Mitchell. Anthony DiBona of The Philly Special thinks that Howie Roseman should give the New York Jets a call for Michael Carter II in exchange for a draft pick.

DiBona's full trade details have Philadelphia giving up its 2026 sixth-round pick (via the Minnesota Vikings) in exchange for Carter and the Jets' 2026 seventh-round draft pick (via the Buffalo Bills). The welcomed arrival of Carter would be a much-needed reinforcement for an injured and unachieving secondary.

How Carter can help solve a glaring issue in the Eagles' secondary

The Eagles did get a bit of good news with perennial All-Pro Quinyon Mitchell being listed as a full participant in practice on the latest injury report with no injury designation. However, despite the good news on one side of the field, the Eagles have a glaring hole across from Mitchell.

The Eagles have relied on Kelee Ringo and Adoree Jackson, both of whom have been benched at one point, due to their poor effort, tackling, and coverage. The addition of Carter could bring the Eagles stability while not forcing Cooper DeJean to play out of position, maximizing his skillset. Carter's addition also allows Philadelphia to ease Jakorian Bennett back into the fold, who is currently on injured reserve with a pectoral injury and not eligible to return until after week seven.

Carter is fresh off a three-year extension that is set to pay him about $20.5 million over the final two years of the deal that expires after 2027. While the investment could pay dividends, the Eagles may not want to dish out that kind of money when the team will have to start working on extensions for Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Mitchell, and DeJean. While Carter may be a nice option, time will tell if it makes sense financially in the coming weeks.
