Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Patrick Queen has been fined $23,186 for a roughing the passer call against Cleveland Browns quarterback Dillon Gabriel.
The play was called a penalty on the field, and it came on a blitz that Queen burst through the hole. With the fine, it was identified as a hit to Gabriel’s head or neck area.
Queen can be seen getting his hands up, and as he follows through, strikes Gabriel in the facemark, leading to the penalty and the subsequent fine.
It is not the first time that Queen has been fined this season. He was fined for the exact same type of hit against Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold in Week 2. That time, he was fined $17,358 for a hit to the head or neck area.
Queen has now been fined over $40,000 this year on those two hits alone, and the fines will keep climbing it it happens again on the field.
Eventually, the NFL will consider him a repeat offender, which will have him hit with the maximized penalty or even a suspension if the hit is deemed dangerous enough.
The Steelers signed Queen to a three-year, $41 million contract that will keep him with the team through the 2026 season. With money already sunken into the position with Roquan Smith, the Baltimore Ravens had to let Queen walk. Queen was notably upset the Ravens never offered him a deal to even think about returning.
