Dak Prescott has delivered impressive performances through the Dallas Cowboys‘ uneven 2-3-1 start to the season.
He ranks second in the NFL with 1,617 passing yards and has thrown 13 touchdown passes against just three interceptions.
Those numbers explain why Jerry Jones made him the highest-paid quarterback in league history.
The production has positioned Prescott in early MVP discussions, though not everyone agrees he belongs among the top candidates.
Former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky expressed skepticism about Prescott’s MVP credentials during an appearance on the Up & Adams show.
“He’s not on my top five MVPs so far. He’s probably in my top five, six, or seven quarterbacks. You’ve got a lot of quarterbacks playing good,” Orlovsky said. “MVP, I think there’s guys doing more when it comes to value to the team.”

He mentioned Daniel Jones, Baker Mayfield, Jared Goff, and Sam Darnold as players he currently ranks higher.
He acknowledged the strong statistical output but questioned whether Prescott has separated himself from other elite quarterbacks.
The Cowboys lost Micah Parsons amid ongoing Jerry Jones drama, leaving many to write off Dallas entirely.
Their defense ranks among the league’s worst units, yet Prescott has kept the team competitive week after week.
He delivered a standout performance against Carolina in Week 6, completing 73.5% of his passes for 261 yards and three touchdowns without an interception.
That marked his third consecutive game with a passer rating above 124, though Dallas still fell 30-27.
The loss highlighted how defensive struggles have limited both team success and Prescott’s MVP case despite his elite metrics.
