Mistaken doubters are already changing their tune after Spurs dominant preseason

We all know it was just the preseason, but let's be honest: the Spurs look damn good. They scored 119 or more in every game except one, and their defense has been impressive in stretches. It's clearly all still coming together, but Sam Vecenie has seen enough to flip his recently expressed opinion that San Antonio would go under their projected win total of 43.5.

"I'm already taking an L on a take I had two weeks ago. I was wrong to take San Antonio's under. I was wrong. Not only do the Spurs hit their over, they just straight up make the playoffs as well." - Sam Vecenie via Game Theory Podcast

Vecenie basically goes on to [say he underrated how good Wemby](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bp8EO7ccMvA) would be, on top of how good this roster is from top to bottom. He's not the only one who has been singing the Silver and Black's praises lately. People are starting to see what enthusiasts have been raving about, and it didn't take long. Better late than never. We'll welcome aboard the newbies who are jumping on the bandwagon.

Spurs' roster allows them to play any style

-------------------------------------------

San Antonio has been building good habits throughout the preseason. Indiana, Utah, and Miami all play radically different styles of basketball, and the Spurs adjusted to them all. They'll have to do that all season long, but they have the personnel to do it. It will mainly be a matter of recognizing what the opposing teams are trying to do and countering it effectively.

Right from the start of the season, we'll see big on big. The Mavericks have been experimenting with several lineups that put some of their largest players on the floor at the same time. They want to use the advantage that their size gives them to bully the opposition, but they don't have a 7'5"(?) monster on their side.

The Spurs have looked great when deploying Victor Wembanyama and Luke Kornet simultaneously. Vic will allow this team to do so much, and his jaw-dropping efficiency has been a revelation during the exhibition portion of this year's journey. He shot 29/44 (65%) and knocked down 5/10 (50%) threes.

What Wemby was doing during the preseason was sustainable, too. He may have powers we've yet to fully understand, but he mainly stayed grounded in his fundamentals. His patience, aggressiveness, footwork, and basketball intelligence are what got him in position to be so effective offensively. He can do that for the entire season.

The key will be in what the rest of the roster does. If their performance through the recent five games is any indication, [they're ready to pull their weight](https://airalamo.com/flaming-hot-overreaction-takes-from-spurs-preseason-lightshow). San Antonio is back, and they may not be sneaking up on teams anymore. That's okay. It's better to put your opponents down when they see you coming.
