After a four-game stay on injured reserve, Jonathan Jones will be available for the Washington Commanders to use in their secondary against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.
The Commanders restored the former Auburn defensive back to their active roster on Saturday, making him eligible to play again after a hamstring injury had kept him off the field since Washington’s second game of the season.
After nine seasons with the New England Patriots that included two Super Bowl championships, Jones joined the Commanders as a free agent in the offseason for a one-year, $5.5 million contract that included a $2.5 million signing bonus and $4.5 million in guaranteed money.
Signed to provide veteran depth in the secondary and experience on special teams, Jones got on the field for 22 defensive snaps and 21 special-teams plays in Washington’s first two games.
Washington and Dallas square off at 3:25 p.m. CDT Sunday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Another former Auburn player will be eligible to play on Sunday after starting the weekend with ineligible status. The Las Vegas Raiders elevated wide receiver Shedrick Jackson from their practice squad on Saturday.
Each NFL team is allowed to activate two members of its practice squad for each game.
A former Hoover High School star, Jackson will be eligible for his sixth NFL game and first since Jan. 7, 2024, when the Raiders play the Kansas City Chiefs at noon Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.
Also eligible to play again Sunday will be Indianapolis Colts running back Ameer Abdullah. But the former Homewood High School standout won’t be a practice-squad elevation this time. The Colts signed Abdullah to their active roster on Saturday.
Abdullah played in the previous two games, when he ran for 13 yards and one touchdown on three carries and caught a 9-yard pass while getting on the field for eight offensive snaps and 20 special-teams plays to start his 11th NFL season.
Indianapolis plays the Los Angeles Chargers at 3:05 p.m. Sunday at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
At least two NFL players with Alabama football roots won’t play on Sunday. Wide receiver Calvin Ridley (Alabama) will miss the Tennessee Titans’ game against the New England Patriots because of a hamstring injury. Dallas cornerback Trevon Diggs (Alabama) will not play against the Commanders because he’s in the NFL concussion protocol.
