Liverpool host Manchester United at Anfield this afternoon at 16:30 local time on matchday eight of the Premier League season as they look to put an end to a three-game losing streak in all competitions that they have been on before the international break.
Arne Slot has acknowledged the pressure on his side coming into the clash against his side’s rivals, so as he looks to turn the tide, the Dutchman would need to put his best team out against the Red Devils.
With that said, here is a look at Liverpool’s potential starting eleven for the outing against Man United.
Goalkeeper – Alisson Becker is injured, so Giorgi Mamardashvili is expected to continue in goal.
Defenders – £30 million summer signing Jeremie Frimpong might be handed the nod at right back against Manchester United with Conor Bradley not playing at the top of his game. Meanwhile, Milos Kerkez might continue ahead of Andy Robertson on the left side of the team’s back four.
Ibrahima Konate is fit after a minor injury over the last fortnight, so he will be in contention to start and partner with Virgil van Dijk in the heart of Liverpool’s backline.
Isak starts up top
Midfielders – Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch have done exceptionally more often than not in the double pivot, and the duo might continue together once more. With Florian Wirtz’s form a cause for concern, he may be benched against Manchester United, so Dominik Szoboszlai might keep his place as the attacking midfielder.
Mohamed Salah has a superb record versus United and would be looking to add to that as he starts down the right flank, while Cody Gakpo, who scored in the loss against Chelsea a couple of weeks ago, could be deployed on the left wing.
Forward – Alexander Isak has a decent record in the Premier League’s bigger sides and in spite of a slow start to his Liverpool career, the Swede might be Liverpool’s number nine ahead of Hugo Ekitike for the big game.
Here is how the Reds are likely to look on paper.
