Nathan Jones saw his side pick up three points at home while QPR had their unbeaten run ended by Millwall.
Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones heaped praise on some of his Addicks stars following a 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday afternoon.
A big three points at The Valley following the international break saw the Addicks rise to ninth in the Championship table. Sonny Carey opened the scoring for Charlton Athletic, netting his third in as many home games, with Reece Burke heading in a second on the stroke of half time.
Jamal Lowe pulled one back for the Owls after 69 minutes but the hosts held on to ensure all three points stayed in London. Speaking after the match, Jones singled out Southampton loanee James Bree for praise.
Jones compares Charlton Athletic man to West Ham star James Ward-Prowse
As quoted by Richard Cawley, he said: “He is the best I’ve ever worked with - and bear in mind that I worked with James Ward-Prowse. Prowsy was phenomenal and Breezer is of that ilk."
Speaking to the club website, Jones added: “It was just a wonderful ball, you can't find many better balls than that. Burkey's scored goals for me before. We mentioned to him on Thursday that he was due one. We're just delighted with the win, and we know we could have been better in the second half and we're under no illusions with that.”
Julien Stephan rues missed QPR chances
Meanwhile, at Loftus Road, Millwall ended QPR’s six fixture unbeaten run with a 2-1 victory. The Lions struck early with two goals in the first half thanks to Femi Azeez and Mihailo Ivanovic.
Koki Saito teed up Rumarn Burrell for an 85th minute tap-in, the two substitutes combining well, but it was all a little too late for QPR - although the striker did nod over a glorious headed opportunity late on.
Speaking after the match, R’s head coach Julien Stephan was adamant that the result did not reflect the performance. He told West London Sport: “I think today was probably our best game since the start of the season. Yes, it was probably the best one, with more chances and more situations created, against a good team with good momentum.
“If I had to sum up the game, it’s very simple; it’s a question of efficiency. We shot 20 times and we touched the ball 46 times in the box, and they shot only five times and scored two goals. We did a good game and were dominant on the pitch. But, in the end, when you have big chances you have to score.
“We scored for 2-1 and then had a big chance at the end with Romarn with the header, so we had enough to score more goals – two, three or four goals. That’s why we lost this one.”
