Welbeck praises the ‘character’ and ‘belief’ of Brighton after a ‘big win’

**Danny Welbeck**shared his thoughts on a big victory for **Brighton**over Newcastle United.

The Seagulls were flying for large spells of the first hour at the Amex Stadium, and a dinked finish from the forward rewarded their enterprise. But when Nick Woltemade pulled off a cheeky backheel, fans would not have been wrong for fearing the worst, especially as a goalmouth scramble followed.

Fortunately, Welbeck was ready to pick up the pieces and bag a brace as the end of the game neared and the pressure piled on. It is another game in which his contributions were decisive, after the 3-1 triumph against **Chelsea**at Stamford Bridge, and he hopes that the momentum will now roll on.

“This is a big win. At home we have not not quite had the results we wanted this season and I think some of the results and performances we wanted to be better and we knew that we could make a statement today.

*“It was an incredible pass from Georginio Rutter. We've got a great connection. I know when he is in those sorts of positions and he's looking to slide the ball through, or I can make a movement and he can go through and take a shot himself. We have got a good connection. We are looking to build on that.*

“It is nice to then get a get another goal and then to put us in a winning position and we want to win these games and at home we want to build a fortress and we're on our way to doing that.

“It is always difficult to win a Premier League game and I think we have had many situations where we've gone ahead and maybe not got the three points.

“So today is a testament to the character, the belief within the group and keep on pushing to keep on going even when it when they get a goal back to have that mentality like we go again.”
