Welbeck had continued his fine recent run against the Magpies when he scored the first half opener on Saturday, but after [Newcastle](https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/football/newcastleunited/?ref=ed_direct) levelled through Nick Woltemade's sublime flick it was the visitors who looked the more likely victors.
Hurzeler turned to his bench in a bid to freshen his side up and turn the tide and was planning to withdraw Welbeck - only for the striker to hit the winner.

"To be honest, yes," said Hurzeler, when asked whether Welbeck was about to come off.
"It's important to be honest and that was the case. I was planning to take him off then he surprised me again. Sometimes it's about timing in life and that was good timing."
Welbeck turns 35 this month but remains a hugely important figure for the Seagulls and now has four Premier League goals this season.
"If you see him you know why," said Hurzeler.
"He's a top professional. Before and after training he's prepared. He recovers well.
"On top of that, if you're a good personality and leader then I think that's the main thing how to describe Danny Welbeck.
"He's always there, he's not selfish and on top of that he's a great goalscorer. Overall I'm just pleased we have him in the squad."
Brighton were the better side for long stages against Newcastle and could have been out of sight before Woltemade's 76th minute leveller.
Hurzeler was delighted with his side's display on the whole, but just as pleased with the show of character after the equaliser.
He said: "Overall, it was 75 minutes really good performance in and out of possession. We scored a really good goal, had plenty of chances to get a second goal. Then conceded a goal out of nowhere.
"Open play we defended really well. They're really good from set-pieces and throw-ins.
"We struggled a little bit and lost our structure, but then came back strongly.
"We showed personality, character and big resilience and I was very impressed with how we responded to the setback."
