Wolves have made a slow start to the new Premier League season under Vitor Pereira
Wolves were beaten 2-0 away at Sunderland this weekend. The Midlands outfit remain bottom of the Premier League table after their tough start to the season. They are winless in their first eight games and have only two points on the board.
Vitor Pereira’s side are finding it hard to get results at the moment. They are back in action on Sunday at home to Burnley as they hunt for their first victory. Their next opponents beat Leeds United last time out so should be in confident mood.
Wolves boss Vitor Pereira delivers honest Jorgen Strand Larsen verdict
Wolves boss Pereira has admitted Jorgen Strand Larsen is ‘struggling’ as he plays with an injury. The attacker is yet to score in the league in this campaign. He has taken a while to get going as he looks to reach the same heights as last term.
Pereira has delivered this honest verdict about the striker’s situation and has said: “The problem of your Jorgen is he’s not working every day, in the last weeks he worked one or two times in the week, and it is difficult to get at his best level, because he cannot have two, three training sessions in a row, because he needs to control the pain on the tendon.
“But, this is a moment to forget the pain and he's trying to help. He's not in Jorgen I saw last season, pressing everybody, now he is struggling in the pressing, struggling to do he wants to do, to attack the space, but he's trying. I need to defend him because he's working not at the 100 per cent.”
On the performance overall against Sunderland, he said: “For my point of view, a poor first half from both teams. To talk about the first half, I need to talk about throw ins, free-kicks, and the time that we wasted. I didn’t see any game. The game was very poor in my opinion. Second half, 30 minutes, we changed completely the way to played, we played in the way that we work every day, doing the movements, creating chances, playing with possession, keeping the ball, not allowing them to play in our defensive midfield, because they could create problems with the throw ins and free-kicks, this is part of the game.”
What now for Jorgen Strand Larsen and Wolves?
Strand Larsen, 25, is a Norway international with 23 caps to his name. He joined his current club on an initial loan deal last year before his transfer was made permanent. The Halden-born man has since scored 16 goals in 45 games in all competitions.
Prior to his move to England, he caught the eye in Spain with Celta Vigo. He found the net on 18 occasions in 74 outings for the La Liga team. The player has also had spells in the past at Sarpsborg and FC Groningen. He is going through a dry patch in front of goal right now and will be eager to hit form soon.
