Leeds United are looking to strengthen in January, with Daniel Farke's side hoping to acquire the services of Sheffield United's Gustavo Hamer.
Following their promotion to the Premier League, Leeds have had a solid enough start to life back in England's top division. Currently placed in the bottom half of the table, the Yorkshire-based side boasts two wins, two draws and three losses from their opening seven games.
Having done what most newly-promoted sides do, Farke's side approached the summer transfer window with a desire to build a team strong enough to survive the drop. Hoping the likes of Sean Longstaff, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and Noah Okafor will help secure this goal, alongside a handful of other incomings and already established talents, it seems the club already has one eye on who else could help bolster the ranks.
With the January transfer window just over two months away, Leeds have already eyed up a move for Lisandru Olmeta. A move that would bring a lot of potential, a dip back into the Championship pond could be on the cards for the club, as Football Insider reports that Gustavo Hamer is being scouted for a move away from South Yorkshire to West Yorkshire.
Leeds United Looking at Gustavo Hamer for January Transfer Window
Gustavo Hamer - Championship - Preston North End v Sheffield United
The Premier League would be nothing new to Hamer, with his 36 outings in the 2023/24 season providing him with a brief insight into what life is like in the world's biggest league. Having remained with the Blades following relegation that season, he is currently embarking on his second Championship campaign with the side.
A league he performed in for three full seasons at Coventry City, it is a surprise to many in the footballing world that the Dutch midfielder is still plying his trade in England's second-highest division. However, with January approaching, it seems a return to the Premier League could be on the cards for the world-class talent.
Needing depth to survive their predicted relegation battle, Hamer would slot in alongside a midfield that already has the likes of Brenden Aaronson, Anton Stach and Ao Tanaka. A move that would excite Leeds fans, it has been reported that although the club likes the player, he might not be their first choice option for the January transfer window and that Hamer also has other suitors, as per Peter O'Rourke.
I think they’ll [Leeds United] definitely always be interested in someone like Gustavo Hamer. He’s a top player, one of the best players in the Championship. He’s been on Leeds’ radar before. I don’t think he’s top of their priority list right now. There’s probably other players ahead of him, but if he doesn’t move in January, I’m sure there’ll be clubs looking at him next summer for sure.”
