Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers is once again being linked with interest from other clubs ahead of the January transfer window.
The attacking midfielder was a reported target for the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal in the summer following an impressive campaign in which he scored 14 goals and provided 16 assists under Unai Emery.
And now, according to CaughtOffside, Chelsea are once again leading the chase for the 23-year-old amid claims that Villa have set an asking price of around £80million which, says the report, is a “figure that tests the interest and financial muscle of both Premier League giants and top European sides.”
It further states that: “Sources close to the player’s situation have informed CaughtOffside that Chelsea are currently seen as the frontrunners in the race to sign Rogers. The London club have identified him as a key target in their 2026 squad planning, aiming to reinforce their attacking midfield options.”
It claims that the Blues’ technical staff believe Rogers is “well-suited to both the intensity of the Premier League and the competitive demands of European football,” and says the interest from Stamford Bridge includes his “long-term development potential.”
Rogers, meanwhile, explained why Unai Emery is the ‘perfect’ manager for him at this stage in his career following intense interest and speculation in the summer window. And Emery has repaid Rogers for his loyalty, starting him in all ten of Villa’s opening Premier League and Europa League games so far this season.
“As a player, when you feel wanted, loved, and you feel like they want you to be there, and to want you to be a key member of the squad, it means everything to you as a player,” Rogers told talkSPORT in September.
“As a player, it’s alright having outside noise and fans liking you. That’s one thing, but to have the manager, who picks the team, to back you - that means everything.
“He just allows me to play football and express myself. He knows that I won’t always get it right or get it perfect, but he just trusts me to a point where he knows I will give it my all.
“If it doesn’t work, then it’s okay, we’ll try again and go to the next game. Having that manager is perfect and just what I needed at this time of my career.”
