Cowboys' Trey Hendrickson hopes might backfire in the worst way possible

The Dallas Cowboys continue to trot out the worst defense in the NFL. They clearly need an answer to help Dak Prescott on the other side, as their star quarterback has literally been carrying this team to keep them competitive in every game this season.

A trade or two is necessary to salvage the season, and it just so happens that Bengals star pass rusher Trey Hendrickson has been linked to the Cowboys. Hendrickson has been one of the NFL's best edge defenders for several years, leading all players with 17.5 sacks last season.

Other teams listed as potential suitors for the First-team All-Pro are the 49ers, Colts, Jaguars and Eagles.

Of course, this would be a prime opportunity for Eagles EVP Howie Roseman to snag one of the best pass rushers in the league, as he needs something to replace now-retired pass rusher Za'Darius Smith. Roseman has a strong case here and hasn't been opposed to making some of the biggest swings of any general manager.

Eagles trading for Trey Hendrickson would be another Cowboys nightmare

There is a strong case for Hendrickson to land with the Eagles. Being the defending Super Bowl champions, they are the most attractive of Hendrickson's potential suitors. Smith was Philly's best pass rusher, so there is a glaring need for more firepower on the defensive line.

The Eagles have lost Brandon Graham to retirement, Josh Sweat to Arizona, and Milton Williams to New England. Believe it or not, the Cowboys have actually racked up more sacks so far than the Eagles. That isn't up to the standard that Dallas fans have come to expect, but it shows how the Eagles are in desperate need of someone like Hendrickson.

All of a sudden, the NFC East is surprisingly up for grabs after the Eagles and Commanders lost last week. Roseman trading for Hendrickson would be a massive advantage in the division.

Roseman was able to get the Titans to trade away A.J. Brown for virtually peanuts, and then signed Saquon Barkley when the Giants' front office couldn't agree to a new contract with Barkley.

On the other hand, maybe the Joe Flacco trade was enough for the Bengals not to make another blockbuster move. They beat the Steelers on Thursday Night Football to improve to 3-4 on the season.

The trade deadline is heating up, but the only realistic win for the Cowboys here would be to either fall on Hendrickson or hope that the Bengals keep him.
