Manchester United have a lot to consider when the 2026 transfer windows open for business
The January transfer window is fast approaching and Manchester United are weighing up their options for potential arrivals and departures.
The Red Devils were expected to sell a significant chunk of their first team over the summer but few players eventually left the club on a permanent basis, as the majority of outgoings headed out on loan.
While Ruben Amorim and his side navigate the weeks leading up to the new year, reports are circling the club at pace as signings and sales could potentially unfold once the winter window opens for business.
Man United receive ‘calls’ from West Ham over Old Trafford ace
United bolstered their attacking ranks during the transfer window with the signings of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko. Zirkzee is no longer a regular figure under Amorim and recent reports have claimed that the club are open to both permanent and loan deals for the striker in January.
Fabrizio Romano has also provided insight into this stance from Man United. Speaking on his latest YouTube video, the transfer expert claims that if Zirkzee reaches January and he remains without regular playing time, there is a ‘possibility’ he could seek a move away from Old Trafford.
Romano stressed that Zirkzee is ‘not forcing’ a move away but he will assess his situation in the new year. Premier League rivals West Ham have been mentioned with interest in the Dutch star.
“There is interest from several clubs in Italy and England, for example West Ham are showing interest in Joshua Zirkzee” Romano said. “But at the moment, nothing more than this, just some calls to understand the situation.”
Man United planning ‘formal proposal’ for £74m midfielder
The midfield remains an area United are looking to expand on, and Porto’s Victor Froholdt has ‘crept onto the priority list of options’ for 2026. That’s according to Fichajes, who report that the Red Devils are weighing up the potential competition and plan to ‘prepare a formal proposal’ for the 19-year-old.
Porto are not willing to let Froholdt leave the club easily, especially halfway through the season. However, the Denmark international ‘could be open’ to the idea of moving to a Premier League club, especially if he is guaranteed a regular playing role.
Porto value Froholdt highly and view him as a key part of their team. The midfielder is a regular starter for the club and is under contract until 2030, having only signed for the 30-time Portuguese champions over the summer.
Froholdt also reportedly has an €85 million (£74m) release clause in place. Along with United, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are also linked with the rising talent.
