Manchester United are set to face off against their arch-rivals Liverpool in this weekend's Premier League clash.

Despite currently sitting mid-table, Ruben Amorim's squad heads to Anfield in better form than their hosts. United managed to secure a win in their last match before the international break, defeating Sunderland 2-0, and also triumphed over Chelsea two weeks prior.

However, these victories were marred by a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Brentford. Liverpool, on the other hand, have suffered three consecutive losses under Arne Slot and will be eager to kickstart their Premier League title campaign on home ground, according to the Mirror.

In the lead-up to Sunday's epic showdown between these two historic clubs, there's been plenty of buzz at Old Trafford. And Daily Star Sport rounds up all the latest news.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe threw his full weight behind Amorim earlier this month, declaring the Portuguese boss needs three years at the helm to prove he's a "great" manager, reports the Manchester Evening News.

However, despite that public backing, the former Sporting Lisbon chief has appeared to be walking something of a tightrope following a tough start to his United tenure - and to this season.

Amorim responded to Ratcliffe's comments ahead of the showdown with Liverpool, thanking him for his support while demonstrating steely determination to keep guiding the club down the right path.

"He [Ratcliffe] tells me all the time, sometimes with a message after the games but you know, I know and Jim knows that football is not like that," Amorim revealed.

"The most important thing is the next game. You cannot control the next day in football so I know that but it is really good to hear that also because of the noise.

"Omar and Jason tell me that all the time."

It's nothing new for footballers to attempt convincing their international colleagues to join them at their respective clubs. It now seems Mbeumo is doing precisely that with Brighton and Hove Albion sensation Carlos Baleba.

United were transparent about their desire to secure Baleba's signature during the summer, but couldn't reach an agreement with Brighton. Nevertheless, The Sun reports that United may hold a trump card in their chase for the £100m-rated Baleba.

They claim that Baleba and Mbeumo, who both represent Cameroon internationally, have been growing closer, with the current United striker doing everything he can to persuade the midfielder to make the switch to Old Trafford.
