Alan Shearer and Micah Richards both believe there are reasons for Leeds United to remain positive despite their 2-0 defeat to Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday.

Daniel Farke’s side were beaten by goals from Lesley Ugochukwu and Loum Tchaouna at Turf Moor, but the scoreline did not reflect the balance of play. Leeds dominated possession for much of the contest and created numerous chances, only to fall short in front of goal.

Farke’s men recorded an expected goals (xG) total of more than 2.5, fired 19 shots to Burnley’s four, and missed four big chances. Speaking on Match of the Day, Richards praised their display despite the result.

“Leeds were excellent apart from putting the ball in the back of the net,” he said. “They dominated, Burnley stayed in the game, took their chances — Kyle Walker with a great cross — and the second one, what a strike.”

Sky has slashed the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle for the 2025/26 season, saving members £336 and offering more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.

Sky will show at least 215 live Premier League games this season, an increase of up to 100 more.

Fellow pundit Alan Shearer also sought to bring perspective to the defeat, pointing out the encouraging starts made by all three newly-promoted teams.

“All three promoted teams are out of the bottom three, so they’ll all be very pleased with their start actually,” he said.

The result leaves Leeds on eight points, just one clear of Burnley after Saturday’s encounter.

Elsewhere, Sunderland have continued their impressive return to the top flight, climbing to seventh place following a 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
