Browns vs. Dolphins: The matchup
The Dolphins have a win under their belt and two competitive losses to the Carolina Panthers (27-24) and Los Angeles Chargers (29-27) over their past three games, but the talk in Miami leans more toward a franchise reset than righting the ship. The Miami offense put together a pair of impressive scoring drives in last week’s loss to the Chargers to take a 27-26 lead with just 46 seconds remaining, only to see Justin Herbert lead the Bolts offense 44 yards in 41 seconds to set up a game-winning 33-yard field goal by Cameron Dicker. Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa threw three interceptions in the loss.
Meanwhile, the Browns are embracing the youth movement at quarterback with rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders set to hold the Nos. 1 and 2 spot on the depth chart for Sunday’s contest. Cleveland has accordingly played with an offense almost devoid of big-play potential after averaging just 3.3 yards per play in last week’s 23-9 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Browns defense keeps showing up, ranking No. 3 in the NFL in total defense (262.3), but the season is slipping away regardless.
