Chelsea frontrunners to sign England star

Chelsea cruised to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday, despite struggling in the first half.

The hosts were arguably more impressive during the first period at The City Ground, but were unable to find a breakthrough and eventually fell behind when Josh Acheampong met Pedro Neto’s delivery with a fine header.

Neto himself then doubled the visitors’ advantage with a free-kick, before Reece James added a third to secure all three points for the Blues.

Within 20 minutes of the final whistle, Forest confirmed that Ange Postecoglou had been dismissed as manager after just 39 days in charge.

The Australian had failed to oversee a single victory in any of his eight matches in charge of Forest.

Now, it appears that there could soon be more good news for Chelsea.

As per CaughtOffside, the West London outfit are currently believed to be in pole position to sign Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers.

The report claims that the Blues are one of a number of sides showing interest in the midfielder, who scored as Villa beat Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

In total the Englishman has scored 18 goals and provided 19 assists in 81 games for the Villans, having signed from Middlesbrough last year.

His impressive performances haven’t gone unnoticed, though, and the report claims that the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool are also both monitoring the attacking midfielder.

Chelsea, however, are said to be frontrunners to sign the England international at present, with the London side hoping to bolster Maresca’s attacking midfield options next year.

Rogers is contracted to Villa until the end of the 2029/30 season, but it appears that they may struggle to keep him at Villa Park until then with several of Europe’s biggest clubs interested in the player.
