Pundits Nedum Onuoha and Shay Given have discussed the possible outcomes of a potential new Nottingham Forest manager.
A 3-0 loss to Chelsea marked Ange Postecoglou's eighth game as Nottingham Forest manager that he failed to win. It would also mark his final match in charge of the team as, just moments after the full-time whistle, Postecoglou was sacked by Evangelos Marinakis.
Postecoglou's reign felt doomed from the off, the Australian having inherited a side that, in being conditioned to Nuno Espirito Santo's brand of football, struggled to adapt to Postecoglou's own philosophy. Former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has been touted for the vacant job at Forest, though there are other candidates being considered.
Recently, speaking on 5 Live, Onouha and Given discussed the possibility of Mancini moving to the City Ground.
Mancini Appointment Could Be 'Absolute Carnage'
Mancini
Onouha and Given both played for Manchester City during their respective careers, with both having worked under Mancini during the Italian's reign at the club, which saw him win City's first-ever Premier League title. Speaking first about Nottingham's managerial predicament, Onouha said:
"What a contrast in terms of candidates, by the way. Sean Dyche (and) Roberto Mancini. I don't really get the link there, as such. Mancini as a coach will get the teams to play exactly how he wants. His methods to do that don't necessarily bring people on board and the identity of the club and the history of it isn't necessarily something that, when he was at City at least, he cared about. I think, at times, he'd play into it with the media, but in reality, he wasn't really bothered about that."
Given responded, saying:
"I'll second that, Nedum. It was just very volatile under him and I think that I wasn't the only player. Him and Balotelli were having a scrap on the training ground and it wasn't just, you know, personal towards me. He's very firey, that's probably a nice way of putting it, but I'm just getting Marinakis in a room, and I'm getting Mancini in a room, I'm not getting dimmed lights and candles on. I'm getting the vibe (of) absolute carnage in that room when the two of them come together. It doesn't seem like a nice fit."
Marinakis has displayed his personality more than once and in the opinion of Given in particular, would no doubt clash with a similarly headstrong Mancini. In recent years, Mancini has guided Italy to European Championship glory, proving that he can still lead teams to contend at the highest level. Forest still have the time to salvage something from their season, but whether Mancini is the man they settle on remains to be seen.
