The Kansas City Chiefs and superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes enter Week 7 with a 3-3 record. To start of the 2025 NFL season, the team has not looked like the dominant Super Bowl contender it has been in recent years.
Despite the sluggish start, the Chiefs have started playing better of late. This week, they’ll look to get back above .500 with a win over the AFC West rival Las Vegas Raiders.
With that being said, Kansas City will have a chance to help its own cause ahead of the upcoming NFL trade deadline.
Looking at the roster, there is one clear need that should be addressed. The Chiefs need to bring in help in the backfield at the running back position. Kansas City has not seen much production from that position to support Mahomes.
Not only have the running backs not produced at a high level, Mahomes actually leads the team in rushing. He has picked up 222 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. Behind him, Isiah Pacheco has picked up 214 yards and no scores on 51 carries.
Ahead of the trade deadline, there is one clear-cut option that the Chiefs should pursue. That option is none other than New York Jets running back Breece Hall.
Bringing Hall in would not only help Kansas City on the ground, he’s also a receiving threat out of the backfield. He’s the perfect kind of dual-threat running back that would perfectly complement Mahomes. If the Jets are open to trading him, the Chiefs should aggressive pursue him.
So far this season in New York, Hall has played in six games. He has carried the football 88 times for 410 yards, averaging 4.7 yards per carry. In addition, Hall has racked up 17 receptions for 150 yards.
At just 24 years old, the Chiefs wouldn’t just be acquiring help for this season. Hall could very well become the team’s long-term starting running back. He would also bring more playmaking ability to the offense.
Kansas City may choose to not swing for the fences via trade. However, it’s an option that should be seriously considered.
Making an aggressive move to acquire Hall would take a lot of pressure off of Mahomes. Anytime the Chiefs have an opportunity to invest more into Mahomes, it’s an option that should be considered. Hall would be exactly that kind of move.
