The Minnesota Vikings have either the best or one of the best wide receivers in the game.
Justin Jefferson has dominated the league like few players ever have, and he’s got a chance to put that in writing on Sunday.
As reported by Mike Florio of NBC Sports’ Pro Football Talk, the LSU product can make NFL history in the game over the Philadelphia Eagles:
“Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson can make a little history on Sunday. Jefferson will be playing his 83rd regular-season game against the Eagles. He has 7,881 career receiving yards. With 119, he’ll be the fastest player to get to 8,000 receiving yards, per NBC Sports research. Julio Jones got there in 85 games. Which gives Jefferson two games to set a new record,” Florio wrote.
The fact that he’s in a position to do this despite missing some time with injuries is even more remarkable.
Also, with him constantly being double-teamed and not always putting up big numbers, this is even crazier.
Jefferson has gone toe-to-toe with Ja’Marr Chase as the best wide receiver in the game.
Still, he hasn’t had Joe Burrow at quarterback.
Now, Los Angeles Rams star Puka Nacua is also trying to challenge his supremacy.
That’s why it would be fitting for him to make a statement against the reigning Super Bowl champions, especially considering that they haven’t been nearly as dominant as they were last season.
Vic Fangio’s defense has regressed, and the Vikings can exploit their secondary’s weaknesses with a perennial mismatch like Jefferson.
The Vikings will continue to start Carson Wentz, as second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy is still dealing with an ankle injury.
Then again, as inconsistent as Wentz has always been, that could be a blessing in disguise for the Vikings.
He’s a veteran signal-caller who knows how to get his pass-catchers involved, and he would certainly love the chance to get back at his former team.
