Matheus Cunha has been preferred to Benjamin Sesko for Manchester United's trip to Liverpool because Ruben Amorim believes Cunha can "push the team forward".
The Reds travel to Anfield this afternoon looking to build on the 2-0 victory they recorded against Sunderland before the international break. Liverpool, meanwhile, have struggled in recent games, losing their last three in all competitions.
If United are victorious this afternoon, it will be the first time that Amorim has recorded back-to-back wins since joining the Reds in November last year. Ahead of the game, the Portuguese head coach explained to Sky Sports his team selection, which also sees Leny Yoro drop out for Harry Maguire.
"I don’t want to say a lot before the game," Amorim said. "Harry Maguire has a lot of experience, they have a lot of crosses also he gives us more power in set pieces which is really important nowadays in the Premier League.
"And Cunha returning to the team, he is one player who has one characteristic that can push the team forward. I think Konate and Van Dijk like the confrontation in the air so we will try to give them different [problems] to try and win the game."
After a difficult start to the campaign, United will find themselves in a good position if they are victorious today. The Reds would be within two points of Liverpool should they record their first win at Anfield since 2016.
