Throughout the first six-plus weeks of the 2025 NFL season, the Cleveland Browns have been surrounded by talk about rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders. Already, the quarterback room has changed dramatically from where it started to begin the year.
Kenny Pickett was traded prior to the start of the regular season, Joe Flacco was quickly benched and then traded after a slow start, and Dillon Gabriel has failed to show anything special in his first two career starts.
Many fans have been calling aggressively for Sanders to see the field. Most have already come to the conclusion that Gabriel is not the answer for the Browns moving forward.
With that being said, there has been no clarity about where Cleveland stands when it comes to Sanders. Now, there is a new update that has been given that has provided a major update for Sanders.
Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com seems to think that Sanders’ time is coming. She provided an update about his situation ahead of the team’s Week 7 matchup against the Miami Dolphins.
"Sanders has been working on every aspect of his game, from throwing out of the shotgun and under center, to play-action, to his footwork and everything else to be prepared to play when his number is called. He's also worked on RPOs, keepers, and other QB movement skills because those are a big part of the Browns offense,” Cabot wrote.
"Myles Garrett also revealed recently that he sees Sanders working with Kevin Stefanski in his office in the early morning hours, which means he's putting in the extra work. It's showing up on the practice field, and the Browns are eager to see what he can do this season when the time comes."
She continued on, making a strong prediction about Sanders’ immediate NFL future.
"The Browns will give Dillon Gabriel a decent on-ramp, but there will probably come a time in the second half of the season where the Browns will want to see Sanders play. They're confident he'll be ready."
Sanders slipped all the way to the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. However, in college he showed off elite arm talent and there are many who still think that he has the potential of being a starting NFL quarterback.
He’ll need to prove it on the field and he has a lot of work left to do, but it sure sounds like he’ll be given a chance to show what he can do.
Expect to continue hearing loud calls for Sanders to become the starting quarterback for the Browns. Fans want to see him and this update from Cabot makes it sound like the team might just be excited to see him play as well.
