Bristol City 0-3 Aston Villa

Aston Villa moved up to second in Group E of the Women's League Cup with a 3-0 victory away to Bristol City this afternoon.

Rachel Daly got the scoring up and running in the third minute as she got off the mark for the 2025/26 season.

Georgia Mullett made it two later on in the first-half as the 20-year-old academy graduate netted her first senior goal for the club.

Ebony Salmon sealed the win and three points in the closing minutes of the game as she dispatched a penalty kick.

Natalia Arroyo named a rotated side as she gave players their fair share of match minutes. Ellie Roebuck, Lucy Parker, Noelle Maritz, Miri Taylor and Mullett all came into the starting 11 and 16-year-old academy defender Katie Scott also made the senior matchday squad for the first time.

It didn't take the Villans long to take hold of the encounter as they got the scoring up and running with only three minutes on the clock.

Lucia Kendall fizzed a dangerous cross deep into the box for Daly to nod home from close range to get her first goal of the campaign.

Daly came close to making it a brace only seven minutes later as she turned a cross from Maritz goalwards but the save was made.

Chasity Grant flashed some fancy footwork in the 13th minute as she beat Harley Bennett and found some space just outside the box before lifting a shot but Naomi Williams got down to smother it.

Sarah Mayling whipped a low cross through the box in the 27th minute for Rachel Maltby to meet but her shot was straight at the keeper who made the save.

Mullett made it two to the good a minute later as she found the back for the very first time as a senior Villan.

Grant slipped a a terrific pass through the defence and into Mullett's path who took a touch before neartly curling a shot around the keeper and into the bottom corner of goal.

Salmon came off the bench at half-time and was quickly on the hunt for Villa's third of the game.

The forward took aim from the edge of the box however her effort was strongly blocked but the ball fell kindly for Lynn Wilms who smashed it back towards goal but her shot flew just wide of the target.

Kirsty Hanson was another forward who came off the bench and made an instant impact as she used her pace to get into the box with the ball.

She slipped however quickly got back up and spun before drilling a shot on goal but Williams got down to make the crucial save.

The afternoon's scoring was wrapped up in the 86th minute as Villa were awarded a penalty kick.

Salmon, who was brought down to win it, stepped up and coolly dispatched the spot kick to ensure all three points headed back to Birmingham.
