NFL Punishes Jerry Jeudy After Heated Altercation With Steelers CB

The Cleveland Browns entered Week 7 of the 2025 NFL season with a 1-5 record and one of the league’s worst offenses, ranking dead last in scoring (13.7 points per game).

The team’s recent loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 6 saw the Browns get shut out of the end zone in a 23-9 defeat at Acrisure Stadium.

On Saturday, just one day before the Browns’ Week 7 matchup against the Miami Dolphins, the NFL announced its punishment for Cleveland wide receiver Jerry Jeudy, who was involved in an on-field altercation with Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. just six days before.

In the first quarter of the Browns-Steelers game, Jeudy appeared to strike Porter in the head area and was penalized on the field, receiving a 15-yard unnecessary roughness flag.

The NFL’s punishment for Jeudy? A $12,172 fine for unnecessary roughness (striking/kicking/tripping/kneeing).

Jeudy, who arrived in Cleveland via trade from the Denver Broncos in March 2024 and signed a three-year extension with the Browns right after the trade, has been the team's primary receiving threat since joining the franchise.

Last season, his first as a Brown, Jeudy posted a career-high 1,229 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 90 receptions (145 targets), ranking sixth in the NFL in receiving.

Across the first six games of the 2025 season, Jeudy’s numbers have seen a slight decline, with 240 receiving yards, 20 catches (48 targets) and zero touchdowns. This puts him on pace for just 1,020 yards on 85 receptions.

The Jeudy fine was not the only disciplinary action after the Steelers game. Tight end David Njoku was also fined $14,491 for unsportsmanlike conduct (obscene gestures) - a separate pocket of off-field penalties the Browns must now manage.

These punishments to two of the team’s top offensive weapons pose yet another obstacle for coach Kevin Stefanski and the Browns.
