Five biggest winners and two losers as Man United beat Liverpool 1-0

Manchester United picked up their first win at Anfield in a decade after securing a 2-1 win over Liverpool in the Premier League.

Ruben Amorim has finally won back-to-back games in the Premier League after overseeing a hard-fought 2-1 win against Manchester United’s arch-rivals.

Bryan Mbeumo scored in the opening two minutes to give the visitors the lead, and United continued to give Liverpool’s defence nightmares with Mason Mount and Matheus Cunha forming the front three.

Senne Lammens was superb on his debut against Sunderland and he retained his starting spot for the trip to Merseyside, but he was denied a second clean sheet with Cody Gakpo scoring in the final 15 minutes.

But in the final minutes, Harry Maguire scored a dramatic winner and he leads United’s five biggest winners from the clash.

Winners

Harry Maguire – Last season in the 2-2 draw at Anfield, Harry Maguire missed a huge chance in the final minutes which would have secured a historic win.

This time, he made no mistake. United’s No.5 rose high and headed in the winner after being defensively flawless throughout.

Bryan Mbeumo – The man who gave United the perfect start at Anfield to settle any nerves. Liverpool couldn’t handle Mbeumo down the right flank, with Milos Kerkez and Virgil van Dijk struggling to keep him quiet.

More United News

Mbeumo now has three goals for United in all competitions, and his goal at Anfield will bring him closer to hero status among supporters.

Senne Lammens – After his impressive debut against Sunderland, Amorim challenged Lammens to be consistent and not get carried away.

Ineos took a risk by signing Lammens ahead of the likes of Gianluigi Donnarumma or Emiliano Martinez, but the recruitment team will now be growing in confidence over the decision to sign the 23-year-old.

Once again, Lammens was brilliantly calm and composed, making a vital stop to deny Alexander Isak in the first half.

Amad Diallo – Amorim took a risk starting Amad Diallo at wing-back given that United were ready to spend much of the match on the back foot, but his starting spot was immediately justified.

It was Amad who found Mbeumo for the early goal, and his ongoing battle with Cody Gakpo proved he could cope defensively.

Matheus Cunha – Amorim raised a few eyebrows with his team selection by leaving out Benjamin Sesko after he scored two in his last two, but he preferred to start with Matheus Cunha as the No.9.

In the biggest of games, Cunha has the ability to get on the ball and carry United forward, and his dribbling was excellent at Anfield.

TalkingPoints

Who was Manchester United’s Man of the Match vs Liverpool?

Losers

Diogo Dalot – Many of Liverpool’s attacks came down Diogo Dalot’s left flank, and often he found himself exposed or out of position.

Patrick Dorgu must have been itching to get on from the bench, and Dalot’s defensive display will be a concern for Amorim moving forward.

Kobbie Mainoo – Throughout his United career, Mainoo boasts an impressive record vs Liverpool, but he was overlooked at Anfield.

Casemiro started alongside Fernandes, and when the Brazilian picked up a yellow card it was Manuel Ugarte who came off the bench to strengthen the midfield. He eventually came on for the final 10 minutes, but he must be wondering where he fits in over the long term.
