Seahawks finally get some good news about Devon Witherspoon at exact right time

The Seattle Seahawks have been surviving a bit in the last four games. The team has been without safety Julian Love in three of the last four weeks, and the same can be said of cornerback Devon Witherspoon. Both have been Pro Bowlers.

That would be a lot of talent alone to be missing, but in the last game and a half, Seattle has also been without edge rusher Derick Hall and cornerback Riq Woolen. Somehow, the team shut down the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 6, but weren't so lucky in Week 5 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Ahead of Week 7 against an improving Houston Texans team, things are looking a bit better. Witherspoon is probably going to play, which will be just his third game of the season. That will give head coach Mike Macdonald two versatile disruptors at the line of scrimmage with Witherspoon and rookie safety Nick Emmanwori.

The corner is listed as questionable, but he practiced fully ahead of the game.

As for Julian Love, he is also questionable with a hamstring issue. That means he might play, though he has been more limited in practice. In other words, don't be surprised if he misses the game.

Woolen is good to go, however. He wasn't listed as questionable, while Love, Witherspoon, and Josh Jones were.

Hall will miss another game, but that was expected. The Seahawks might have been holding off putting him on injured reserve in hopes he can return in Week 9. Seattle has a bye week in Week 8, and had Hall been placed on IR prior to the bye week, that non-game week wouldn't have counted toward the four games he would have had to miss.

The defensive line is in good shape, though. Byron Murphy II, having a breakout season in year two, should be able to get pressure against a poor Texans offensive line. Murphy will get help from elite defensive lineman Leonard Williams and defensive tackle Jarran Reed.

Offensive lineman Josh Jones, a free agent signee this past offseason, could miss another game with an ankle injury. It is a good thing that left tackle Charles Cross and right tackle Abraham Lucas have remained healthy so far. Jones wouldn't have been around to replace them.

The Texans are in good shape health-wise. If they lose, it won't be because of injury issues they had entering the game. It will be because the Seattle Seahawks beat them on the field.
