The New York Jets took the field for a Week 7 matchup against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday afternoon.
Early in the second quarter, Jets quarterback Justin Fields picked up a first down on a QB run and gave himself up on a slide; however, Panthers safety Nick Scott delivered a brutal late hit on the New York signal-caller.
The hit sparked a scuffle between the two teams and drew an unnecessary roughness penalty against the Panthers.
Fields was taken into the blue medical tent to be evaluated for a concussion. Veteran backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor finished the drive for the Jets.
Fields was, however, cleared to return to the field following his evaluation.
Scott, a seventh-year NFL safety, will likely face punishment from the league for his late hit on Fields. The first offense for a hit on a defenseless player yields a $17,389 fine, which jumps to $23,186 for a second offense.
Fields and the Jets are in the midst of a brutal 2025 NFL season, starting the year with an 0-6 record. In last week’s 13-11 loss to the Denver Broncos, the fifth-year signal caller completed just nine passes for 45 yards and took nine sacks.
The Jets and Panthers are tied 3-3 midway through the second quarter of Sunday’s Week 7 matchup. Carolina is 3-3 to start the 2025 season following last week’s win over the Dallas Cowboys.
