Gary Neville has been criticised following Manchester United's 2-1 victory against Liverpool, due to his commentary for Harry Maguire's winning goal. The centre-back headed home in the final 10 minutes of the match to ensure the Red Devils recorded an important victory under Ruben Amorim.
The visitors had taken the lead through Bryan Mbeumo in the opening 63 seconds of the game, but were then put under pressure by Liverpool as Arne Slot's side searched for an equaliser. They were made to wait until the second half, but Cody Gakpo converted from close range to level proceedings.
However, the Anfield crowd's joy quickly turned to anguish, as Maguire rose highest to head home a looping cross from Bruno Fernandes. That in turn sparked wild scenes in the away end and in the gantry.

Neville, having played for United for all of his career, was asked to commentate on the game for Sky Sports alongside fellow pundit Jamie Carragher and Peter Drury. While he's usually pretty good at towing the line between his reactions as a fan and as a professional, all his media training flew out the window after Maguire headed home.

Sky Sports viewers could audibly hear Neville celebrating the game, with him unable to contain his joy that the Red Devils had got one over their rivals. While he then regained his composure to give his view of the goal, viewing supporters feel that he blurred the line too much between fandom and unbiased commentary.
"Gary Neville should not be celebrating like that as a commentator," one viewer said. "Sounds woke but don’t put him on their games!!! Sky Sports is a joke." Another added: "Cancelling my Sky tomorrow, no way am I giving them money for having Gary Neville audibly celebrating a goal against the team I support."
There was a theme among disgruntled fans that Neville lacked professionalism with his reaction. Someone said: "Gary Neville professional as ever, Sky Sports might as well bring back fanzone sticking these 2 clowns on Liverpool v United." Another viewer shared that sentiment, saying: "Unprofessional from Gary Neville as per usual. Sky need to take action."

He's faced backlash for criticising people for raising Union Jack and St George's flags to lamp posts across the country, with protestors invading the pitch during Salford City's match against Oldham Athletic on Saturday and brandishing him a "traitor."
