The Chicago Bears nearly had a disaster moment on a broken play with Caleb Williams taking a hit

A broken play from the Chicago Bears offense saw quarterback Caleb Williams take a huge hit after a mistake from center Drew Dalman.

The Bears spent a lot of money to upgrade their offensive line this offseason, giving Dalman a huge deal to join from the Atlanta Falcons along with four-time Super Bowl winner Joe Thuney from the Kansas City Chiefs. The Bears looked to right their wrongs from Williams' rookie season with offensive line additions, after the quarterback's quotes on their punter sensationally backfired.

But miscommunication from Thuney and Dalman saw an offensive play broken before it begun with the former blocking before the latter snapped the ball. The ball remained in Dalman's hands with Williams under center, who had taken a huge hit from Saints' 315-pound defensive tackle Nathan Shepherd.

Williams would have wanted to avoid getting hit on a nothing play, falling to the ground with the defensive lineman seeing an opportunity for a free hit. The Bears quarterback was not hurt on the play and was able to continue.

Despite the Bears impressive three-game winning streak, Williams has still had his issues at the quarterback position, although boasting impressive numbers with nine touchdowns and two interceptions.

Williams has been criticized for often looking to make a play outside of the rhythm of the offense, something that saw him thrive at both Oklahoma and USC with Lincoln Riley.

Dalman had kept the ball in his hands after the snap

Head coach Ben Johnson has not been afraid to speak strongly on Williams, knowing he has an elite talent on his hands at quarterback while struggling with consistencies.

Johnson looked furious with his quarterback in the Bears' win over the Washington Commanders after he seemingly shouted at him the 'shut the ---- up'.

Williams was speaking to officials at one point with the camera then panning to the head coach, who can communicate with his quarterback through the microphone while shouting into it seemingly stating: "Will you shut the ---- up" while he's attempting to coordinate the drive.

The camera had quickly cut away after Johnson appeared to be swearing, with lip-readers deciphering what he'd said after clips were shared to social media.

Despite Williams inconsistencies, he is still on pace to become the Bears' first-ever quarterback to throw for 4,000 in a season - something that has incredibly never happened in the franchises history.

Williams might not have had the start to his career that many expected, seen as a generational prospect after the Bears landed him following the Carolina Panthers' brutal 2023 trade.

Williams has struggled in the Bears game with the Saints through three quarters, throwing for less than 100 hundreds and having an interception with no touchdowns.
