Chelsea have the chance to sign some players when the January transfer window opens for business

Chelsea won 3-0 away at Nottingham Forest this weekend. Josh Acheampong, Pedro Neto and Reece James got their goals at The City Ground in a result that has sparked the end of Ange Postecoglou’s short stint with the Reds. Malo Gusto was also sent off near the end of the game.

Enzo Maresca’s side are unbeaten in their last three games. They are starting to build some momentum and will be in confident mood. Next up is a Champions League home clash against Ajax on Wednesday as they look to keep their form going.

Chelsea target Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers

Chelsea have the chance to bring in some new faces in the January transfer window. They were busy on the recruitment front this past summer and signed the likes of Jorrell Hato, Liam Delap and Joao Pedro, among others, to bolster their ranks. The London outfit have the opportunity to snap up more additions this winter.

According to CaughtOffside, the Blues will ‘target’ a move for Aston Villa ace Morgan Rogers. The report adds that his price tag is around the £80million mark. In addition, Liverpool and PSG have also been mentioned as potential suitors, whilst previous interest from Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur is said to have faded.

Rogers, 23, is under contract at Villa Park until 2030 so his current team are under no pressure to sell him anytime soon and can hold out for massive money. He moved to the Midlands in January 2024 after catching the eye in the Championship at Middlesbrough. The England international, who has nine caps to his name, has since adapted well to the step up to the Premier League and is one of Unai Emery’s most prized assets.

The Halesowen-born man has made 81 appearances in all competitions for Aston Villa to date and has scored 17 goals, 14 of which came last season. He started out at West Brom before joining Manchester City as a youngster. Pep Guardiola loaned him out to Lincoln City, AFC Bournemouth and Blackpool to help him get some experience under his belt.

Chelsea reaction to Fulham win

Chelsea manager Maresca was impressed with their display against Nottingham Forest. Speaking afterwards, he said: "It's not good [the touchline ban], I don't like, I prefer to be in the dugout. It was a good game, first half we struggled a bit, second half was much better and we controlled the game better.

"We made some mistakes where we gave them a boost in the first half, it's better if we avoid that. Some of my changes [at half-time] were already planned. We know Romeo Lavia can't play a full 90 minutes. This season suddenly we have many injuries. One of the main things is to rotate players and manage them."

Meanwhile, Neto added: "I thought in the beginning of the game we started well, but after that it was a little bit difficult for us. As always, I like to step up in these kinds of moments. After the international break the last month, we didn't start well. We didn't win the three games that we had. We needed to change some things and be more aggressive and in the second half we kept more of the ball score three goals, and we are really happy."
