Senne Lammens has to be number one goalkeeper for Manchester United going forward after his performance against Liverpool.
It has been almost a year since Ruben Amorim was appointed as manager of Man United. In his latest game in charge of the club, he not only recorded back-to-back wins for the first time, but did so by beating defending champions Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield.
The Red Devils took an immediate lead, courtesy of Bryan Mbeumo, against Liverpool, who only equalised in the 78th minute through Cody Gakpo. Minutes later, however, a header from Harry Maguire beat Georgi Mamardashvili in the Liverpool goal, condemning the Reds to a fourth successive defeat, a first for Arne Slot in his managerial career.
There were many positives to Man United's performance. Perhaps, this could be the game that they use as a springboard for going forward. In particular, there was one Red Devil who deserved praise for his display against the defending champions.
Lammens Was Brilliant Against Liverpool

Man United's summer business was heavily focused on the revamping of their attack. Another crucial addition, however, was that of Senne Lammens, recruited from Royal Antwerp. The shot-stopper, Man United fans hoped, was the answer to their long-term goalkeeper problem. Andre Onana, signed in 2023, struggled for form at Old Trafford, ultimately leaving the club on loan in the summer.
Lammens' first Premier League start for Man United coincided with a 2-0 win against Sunderland, with the Belgian retaining his place for his club's trip to Anfield. Against Liverpool, Lammens had an impressive game, remaining a constant source of calm for Man United, which they have lacked from their goalkeeper for far too long.
In what was a "big" display, Lammens looked immensely assured, collecting crosses with ease and making the saves that would be expected of him. Though it had been hard to say whether he or Bayindir should start for the club in recent weeks, Lammens' displays since coming into the team should ensure that he continues to play for the Red Devils.
In having what appears to be a reliable and composed shot-stopper in-between the sticks, Man United have found an answer to one of their biggest issues in recent years. Lammens can only hope that his form is rewarded with continued good performances from his team.
