Unai Emery spoke about his satisfaction with Aston Villa after a 2-1 victory over Tottenham.
The Villans started slowly in North London, going behind after five minutes to a firm volley from Rodrigo Bentancur. However, Morgan Rogers ripped an excellent equaliser into the net before Emiliano Buendia rewarded the bravery of a cross-field Matty Cash pass to put the team ahead.
This comeback was emblematic of the momentum of the team’s campaign. They failed to score a single goal in three Premier League matches in August, and remained winless in their next two league clashes against **Everton**and Sunderland. However, they have won their last three games in the English top tier and also taken six points from their first two Europa League encounters.
Things are moving in the right direction, and the Basque boss believes he is seeing his old side.
“I’m very, very proud of every Aston Villa supporter, they are here with us, they support us and they were helping us. And, of course, I’m very proud of the work we did today.
“The players focused on the match, 90 minutes strongly. Even when we were losing, we didn’t lose our gameplan and progressively got better, feeling better. It was really a very good win.
“Confidence is coming, confidence we’ll need for the next matches. We continue being humble in our way, but getting better and trying to build the team, build our structure in everything – tactically, individually as well – in the way we did, in the way we have to.
“Today, we showed, we did one step forward more in our idea for this year how we want to build the team and how we want to be successful.
“We started poorly but now, progressively, we are getting better and this victory is very, very, very important for our confidence and for the players as well, how they play, perform and compete.”
