62 seconds is all that Bryan Mbeumo needed to give Manchester United the lead at Anfield today, as his goal in Merseyside is arguably the most important one he has netted in a United shirt.

The Red Devils have the Cameroon international to thank for helping them secure a massive 2-1 win against Liverpool, which is the first time United have won at Anfield since 2016.

Mbeumo now has three goal involvements in the Premier League after making eight appearances for the club. He was extremely important for United this evening and played the full match, being involved in two goals in his last two league matches.

Bryan Mbeumo said: “Scoring in front of them [Liverpool fans] and silencing them, that was nice.”

As the 26-year-old wheeled away in celebration, he received plenty of unpleasant words from the Liverpool fans, who were angered by their poor start to such an important fixture. Amad Diallo played a ball through to Mbeumo, whose strike hit the body of Liverpool’s goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, but the Georgian could not keep the ball out of his own net.

The early goal certainly stunned Anfield, with the Reds finding themselves in unfamiliar territory against the Red Devils at home.

The matches between the two clubs at Anfield have often been one-sided, but this time round, United were the ones leaving the stadium the happier.

Ruben Amorim’s side have handed Liverpool their fourth straight loss in a row across all competitions, and have moved to just two points behind the defending Premier League champions.

United are now targeting their third-straight win next week as Brighton travel to Old Trafford. The Seagulls sit just one point and one place behind the Red Devils in the table, in 10th. Last season, United suffered a 3-1 loss against them at home, which was one of the side’s 18 league losses during the campaign.
