As the Patriots were kneeling out the clock in a lopsided road win over Tennessee, there was a chant from the Nissan Stadium crowd so loud that it was audible on the CBS broadcast.
“Vra-bel! Vra-bel! Vra-bel!”
In Mike Vrabel’s first game in Tennessee since being fired as Titans coach following the 2023 season, his new team rolled to a 31-13 victory. After the win, the Patriots coach was asked about the chant and whether it was his people making their voices heard.
“I didn’t get that many tickets,” Vrabel replied. “I don’t know. But that’s neither here nor there. I’m happy for our players. I think these guys, they’re figuring out how to win. They’re figuring out how to practice. I guess it’s humbling to have these people want to — whoever that is — cheer for us. Whether that’s the Patriots, or Drake Maye, or me, or anybody else.”
The chants caught Maye’s ear on the Patriots sideline.
“That’s pretty cool. I think that’s always cool,” Maye said. “He downplayed it all week, which we appreciate. He was focused on us and worried about us and that’s what matters. But I know it feels good for him.”
Since getting rid of Vrabel, the Titans have bottomed out. They fired his replacement, Brian Callahan, earlier this week and dropped to 1-6 on the season with Sunday’s loss.
