Retired NFL Pro Bowl running back dies at 36 years old

Former NFL star running back Doug Martin has died.

He was 36.

TMZ reportedMartin’s death Sunday citing “a source with direct knowledge,” but did not have further details regarding the cause of his passing.

The 5-foot-9, 223 pounder became a star at Boise State and was a first-round pick, 31st-overall, by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Martin played for the Buccaneers through the 2017 season before wrapping up his career with a season with the Raiders in 2018.

Martin ran for 1,454 yards and 11 touchdowns and caught 49 passes for 472 yards and another score as a rookie with the Buccaneers in 2012. His numbers dipped as he battled injury, but he had another big year in 2015, rushing for 1,402 yards and six touchdowns while catching 33 passes for 271 yards and five more scores.

He never rushed for more than 1,000 yards again in his career.

Martin was a two-time Pro Bowl pick (2012 and 2015) and was a first-team All-Pro in 2015, too.

He finished his career with 5,356 rushing yards and 30 touchdowns while also collecting 1,200 receiving yards.
