3 players who cost Liverpool the most against Manchester United

Liverpool continue to slide in the Premier League, and they hit a new low on Matchday 8 of the Premier League with a 2-1 loss to a previously hapless Manchester United.

The first culprit in the matchup has to be goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili. Although he was one of the best young keepers in La Liga with Valencia, anyone who was foolish enough to think that Mamardashvili is half the goalkeeper Alisson Becker is has been left seriously disappointed.

Honestly, why did Liverpool let Caoimhin Kelleher go to Brentford? No disrespect to Mamardashvili, but Kelleher’s 2024/25 performances in relief of an injured Alisson were more impressive than anything the Georgian international did in Spain, let alone how dodgy he looked against Manchester United.

Alexander Isak was also rubbish yet again, and after Arne Slot basically admitted that the excuses are out for the Swedish international now that he is fully healthy, the striker went out and produced a lackluster dud of a game.

Known for being inconsistent at Real Sociedad, we are witnessing the very worst of Isak. He looks like he’s playing the striker position with clown shoes on, leaving Cody Gakpo to effectively carry the entire goal-scoring burden of the attack.

Another wooden spoon goes to midfielder Alexis Mac Allister. Any criticism directed at Florian Wirtz needs to go to the Argentinian international by a magnitude of 10, because he has legitimately been one of the worst players in the Premier League this season.

So far removed from his form when winning titles for both club and country, Mac Allister is having a bafflingly bad start to the season, and being overrun this badly by Manchester United’s Ruben Amorim-led midfield is a new nadir entirely.

This display is one of the worst midfield performances ever conjured in a Liverpool shirt and deserves widespread derision. He shouldn’t start in the Premier League for another month, minimum.
