Numerous ex-Manchester United strikers have decided to go into management following their retirements from football.

Some of those names include Wayne Rooney and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who are both currently without a club.

Rooney’s last job in management was in the Championship with Plymouth Argyle, while United’s 99’ hero was sacked by Besiktas just weeks ago.

Despite both of their struggles, one former frontman is succeeding in the Netherlands.

Feyenoord sit top of the Eredivisie on 25 points, three clear of second-place PSV Eindhoven. Feyenoord, who are chasing their first league title since the 2022/23 season, have won eight of their opening nine league matches.

In those games, the team have scored 25 goals, conceding only six.

The Dutch league leaders today won in incredible style, securing a 7-0 away win against Heracles, who are sitting at the bottom of the table.

In the first-half, Ayase Ueda scored a hat-trick, taking his goal tally up to six over his last three Eredivisie appearances. 4-0 up at half-time, the win was all but sealed for Feyenoord, who are managed by a former Manchester United striker.

Robin van Persie is in charge of the Dutch outfit, who went on to score three second-half goals. The statement win now means that Feyenoord have earned 13 points from their five away fixtures this season in the league.

Van Persie, who won the Premier League with Manchester United back in 2013, currently manages the club where he started and ended his career.

For the Dutch club, Van Persie made 122 appearances, scoring 46 goals and getting 16 assists. He was at Feyenoord for two stints, between 1996-2004 and 2018-2019.

During his final season of his playing career, the Dutch forward showed no signs of slowing down. At the age of 35, he scored 16 league goals and assisted four, across just 25 appearances in the league alone.

Now the 42-year-old is focused on management and has shown his qualities when standing in the dugout. Feyenoord’s next league match will be a tough game, which is against second-place PSV. The clash will be a real six-pointer, as Van Persie’s side could move six points clear at the top of the table.

His team have also conceded half the amount PSV have in the league, highlighting their strong defensive showings across their nine Eredivisie matches.
