Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo Declares Where He Wants to Finish Career

The Milwaukee Bucks dealt with a ton of uncertainty regarding superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo this offseason.

Most of the news came from parties that were not Antetokounmpo nor his team, but ESPN’s Shams Charania reported earlier this month that the only team Antetokounmpo would have requested a trade to was the New York Knicks.

After engaging in trade talks, no deal materialized, and the Greek Freak appears to be a Buck for the near future.

When it comes to ending his career, however, the two-time league MVP revealed on ANT1’s The 2night Show that he doesn’t want to wrap things up in Milwaukee.

“I’m 30 years old, I can play in the NBA until I’m 36-38. I’d like to end my career in a Greek team, why not?” Antetokounmpo said. “I don’t want to live in the United States. As soon as I leave the NBA, I want to return to Greece. I could end my career here, whether this team is called Filathlitikos, Olympiakos, Panathinaikos, or Aris, I’m talking about all the teams now.”

Antetokounmpo, whose game is predicated on his athleticism, may be correct in his assessment of how long he can compete at the NBA level, but he is also showing no signs of slowing down.

The nine-time All-Star is coming off another superlative season in 2024-25. Across 67 healthy games for the 48-34 Bucks, Antetokounmpo averaged 30.4 points, 6.5 assists, and 11.9 rebounds per game last year. The Greek Freak led the league in field goals per game (11.8) and earned his ninth All-NBA selection, as well.

Especially given how wide open the Eastern Conference seems to be this season, the Bucks can very well make a case for a deep playoff run. After getting eliminated in the first round for three seasons in a row, there is some unfinished business in Milwaukee, and Antetokounmpo will look to have another monster season.
