Broncos vs. Giants third quarter recap

The Denver Broncos got the ball to start the second half. Bo Nix and the offense got a first down, at least, but a Troy Franklin drop on a perfect pass into New York Giants territory and then a go ball on a third and five sent Jeremy Crawshaw back out for yet another punt for Denver in this game.

Meanwhile, the Giants just keep dipping back into the wide open tight end well. And wide open tight ends was a theme throughout this game. If there wasn’t a wide open penalty, there was a Broncos flag on the field to give the Giants what they need to keep the drive alive.

A sack by Dondrea Tillman did put the Giants into a third and 18 situation at the Broncos 42-yard line. Jaxson Dart hurt his ankle on the sack, but remained in the game. He would have his third down pass deflected by Zach Allen to bring out the punt unit.

Needing to get something going, the Broncos next drive started at their own 12 yard line. A botched read option led to a fumble that Bo Nix fell on for a one yard loss. Then a deflected pass on second down and an incompletion on third led to yet another three-and-out for an absolutely woeful Broncos’ offense.

The Broncos defense finally gave way as the Giants put a nail in the coffin with their third touchdown of the game in a blowout in the mile high city. They would fail on the two-point conversion, but the damage was done.

It seems like the only question now is whether or not Denver would be shutout at home in front of the Super Bowl 50 alumni team. A couple of big plays. One a throw to Courtland Sutton and another long run by JK Dobbins set them up inside the red zone to end the quarter.
