In a record-shattering turn, former MLS first-round pick Brandon Aubrey has now made history in the NFL by converting five field goals of 60 yards or more, the most ever by a kicker. Aubrey’s unusual journey began when, following a collegiate soccer career at University of Notre Dame, he was selected 21st overall in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft by Toronto FC. He never kicked a football in a pro game then, but pivoted into American football through the USFL and later joined the Dallas Cowboys, where his leg strength quickly became legendary.
This season, Aubrey’s ultra-long makes have reached a new tier. His five 60+-yard field goals have been enough not just to win games but to force defenders and strategists across the league to rethink the very boundaries of the kicking game.
Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott recently offered high praise after a 64-yard hero kick in overtime: “He gives you faith… I just got to get this to the Star, and he can put it through.”
Indeed, Aubrey’s calm-under-pressure performances have earned him NFC Special Teams Player of the Week honours multiple times this year.
From a defender on the soccer pitch to one of the NFL’s most fearsome closers, Aubrey’s story is now the stuff of legend. His five 60+-yard field goals are more than statistics — they’re a statement about what’s possible when unconventional talent meets opportunity.
