HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - It was a historic day in the National football league where two Hawaii quarterbacks faced off.
Mililani’s Dillon Gabriel and the Cleveland Browns hosted Saint Louis’ Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins.
It’s the first time two Hawaii-born NFL starting quarterbacks played each other.
In the battle of two former Hawaii prep stars, it would be the rookie Gabriel getting the better of Tagovailoa and the Fins, Browns win it 31-6.
Tagovailoa had a rough outing, he threw 3 interceptions, eventually getting benched for rookie Quinn Ewers.
Gabriel went 13-of-18 for 116 yards through the air.
However, it was more of a showcase of the Browns run game and defense that propelled them to victory in the rainy conditions in Cleveland.
“Yeah, I think just all together, try not to make it about myself, but I think it’s just about the team,” Gabriel told the media following the game. “Us finding a way to win, come together, that’s what’s most important and that’s fun, winning is fun and your attention to detail has to be at a high level to continue to do this.”
This is DG’s first win as an NFL starting quarterback.
The Browns will next face the New England Patriots.
